We are delighted to welcome children from the age of three to our Nursery, a bright, inviting space designed to inspire curiosity and creativity. With its own bathroom facilities and direct access to a safe, enclosed playground, our Nursery encourages learning both indoors and outdoors. Children can attend full days, mornings, afternoons, or a flexible combination to suit your family’s needs.
In our happy and nurturing environment, your child will feel safe, valued, and supported as they develop the confidence to explore, experiment, and take risks. Our small class sizes and excellent staff-to-child ratios mean that every child receives the attention and guidance they need to grow and thrive.
Our curriculum blends adult-led and child-initiated activities, with plenty of opportunities for free play so children can follow their own interests and shape their learning journey. We offer a broad and balanced programme covering all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage, with specialist teaching in music, drama, French, PE, and swimming. Our wonderful school grounds—including the woodland area Dingley Dell, the Adventure Playground, and the school garden and allotments—provide endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.
Nursery children also enjoy socialising with Pre-Prep children during the day, sharing playtimes, and joining them for a freshly made, nutritious hot lunch in our dining room.
Our Nursery is open Monday to Friday during term time, with sessions running:
Morning: 8.30am – 11.30am
Mid-morning (including lunch): 11.30am – 12.30pm
Afternoon: 12.30pm – 3.30pm
We also offer wraparound care from 7.30am – 6.00pm to support busy family schedules.
We would love to show you our Nursery in action—come and visit us to see how your child can flourish in a fun, supportive, and inspiring environment!
In partnership with Wiltshire County Council, Chafyn Grove offers the Funded Early Education (FEE) grant. This is available up to a maximum of 15 hours per week, for six terms, from the term after a child’s third birthday and is subject to the completion of the relevant SCC Declaration Form each term.
Our funded hours are provided in the mornings between 8.30am and 11.30am. If you are not claiming FEE hours from an alternative provider the 15 hours will be fully funded and there will be no extra cost. Parents/carers may use the Tax Free Childcare to access funding.

You will be greeted by our Nursery teacher as you arrive who will run through the drop off routine with you (signing in, unpacking bags etc). We find most children settle quickly, but appreciate this can be difficult for both parties sometimes. Please communicate any concerns you have in advance so that we can make arrangements to accommodate them.
We are very aware of the need to promote ‘healthy eating’. Nutritious lunches are provided by our school’s catering team, ensuring a healthy balance of sweet and savoury, as well as encouraging children to try new tastes and textures. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided each day, with milk on offer to drink in the mornings if children would like it. Water is readily available at all times throughout the day for anyone who is thirsty.
Yes – Chafyn Grove is a nut-free school and caters for a wide range of allergies and specific diets.
Yes – we have a number of options available to children to enable this.
Yes please. The expectation is that children are fully toilet trained, confident using the toilet and wearing pants during the daytime rather that pull ups or nappies. Of course, we fully understand that accidents can happen and that young children sometimes need help. We are equipped to deal with these matters sensitively and effectively if required.
Our on-site medical matrons are available to assist with any child who is taken ill during the day. Parents will be contacted should they need to go home. Children are asked to remain at home for 48 hours following any sickness or diarrhoea.
We work with the government’s statutory ratios of 1:8 for 3-4 year olds. Our maximum number of children per session is 16.
Our Nursery staff are qualified at level 3 or above. In addition, all Early Years staff hold full Paediatric First Aid qualifications and Food Safety & Hygiene qualifications, as well as being up-to-date with safeguarding training.
We see most parents/carers at the beginnings and ends of days and these regular, informal meetings enable us to chat to you about how your child is getting on and to deal with any questions quickly and easily. Our fortnightly Pre-Prep newsletter gives details of some of the activities the children have been up to, as well as providing information about upcoming events, and parents can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We have two scheduled Parents’ Meetings during the academic year, providing an opportunity for us to get together to review your child’s learning and progress. All staff are contactable by email and additional meeting can be arranged if you would like them.
